Facebook is no longer a default

A link to Facebook will no longer be included in Vivaldiโs Speed Dial by default. Hereโs why.

Good decision.

Yay!!
-
Nice decision.
Maybe including links to Mastodon or diaspora* would be nice instead ? -
From an ethical point of view, this is surely a good decision.
But does this have a financial impact for Vivaldi?
I recall you have some deals with some default/included search engines, is it the same for speed dials entry? -
@guilimote: It is the same for some entries, like for the search engines, they have deals with some of them.
The others are put there according to their potential uses by the users
I'm not sure if Vivaldi had a deal with FB or not. -
@guilimote: Yes, there are deals about bookmarks / Speed Dials as well. AFAIK Vivaldi's selection is actually a mixture of choices by the team, which they think users will enjoy and paid ones.
I don't know in which of those two categories Facebook belonged, but in any case, isn't it nice to know that Vivaldi puts your privacy first over any revenue? -
@christoph142 Don't misunderstand me, it is nice to know, of course! But I was just curious about the impacts of such a decision.
-
changing the subject. I do not see the need for this white bar with history bookmarks and speed dialing.
ย ย ย It may well be on the side, giving a gain in the speed dial area -
Very good. FB is, and always has been, a privacy disaster. Zuckerberg is not to be trusted, period.
-
@christoph142: Facebook started as a Speed Dial the team decided was a convenience to most users, later Facebook became a partner.
Edit: At least that's what it seems seeing the url of the bookmark used to link directly and then it started to go through vivaldi.com/bk/

I recall you have some deals with some default/included search engines, is it the same for speed dials entry? You can check the URLs - if there is some intermediate URL (meaning: not the direct URL to the page but some redirect URL) or e.g. the string Vivaldi in the URL, then the likelihood is great, that Vivaldi earns some cent per user per year (literally) from those. All other default links and search engines are only in for user convenience reasons.

Yay that was a great decision.
-
Shared in Diaspora and G +
-
Great decision...
-
Well done. I would include FB thumbnail in the post title.
-
Great decision and good to hear!
Vivaldi users should fully support this move. -
I didn't even know facebook was in there as default. I believe it didn't show up when I recently tried a clean profile, was it only available for specific countries/regions?
-
A most excellent decision. It was one of, if not THE, first thing(s) I removed from the default install. FB's idea of privacy has long been "You don't have any." as could be seen by how the defaults were set and how user settings tended to get reverted to such unless and until they were caught at it. Good riddance!

I support this decision.
