Snapshot 1.15.1125.3 - Can't open the Settings window after first sync
-
Hello.
After having issues of almost immediate crashing at start due to sync feature, I removed my config file and reinstalled Vivaldi Snapshot. (see https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/199272)
No crash now, but I can't open the parameters window, neither from the lower left button, from the menu or the keyboard shortcut.
I tried several things to see what it was linked with.
Changing the theme, changing other settings, login to the synch service, I closed the parameters window everytime I changed something. I have absolutely no issue after the synch login, but it starts after the first synch actually happened. After that once I close the window, I can't open it anymore.
If I erase the content of my config repertory, it opens again no.
Running Snapshot 1.15.1125.3 on ArchLinux Kernel 4.15.8-1-ARCH
EDIT: Edited the thread title for clarity

Hi,
I supposed it's the Sync login interface. Try starting Vivaldi from shell :
/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir="/tmp/VIV-TES"
-
@lamarca thanks for the reply.
I tried that after reading the thread mentionned in the link above.
The directory is still in my /tmp, is there something specific to look for in there?
Nothing special seemed to appear on the console output.

After loading Vivaldi did the Sync login interface appear?

@lamarca yes, i reproduced the exact same steps that way. With the exact same results.

That means your UI is missing:
-
@lamarca This screen shows up.
I can login, enter my decryption password, validate what I want to synch and start synching. My favorites and speedials are actually synched up.
It is afterwards, after the first synch and closing the window that is doesn't show up anymore

Let me understand one point, after completing the Sync process and terminated the connection, the screen, where you input username, passwd and the encrypted passwd, does not show up?
Could you please post a screenshot?
-
@lamarca Sorry I realize I have not been very clear with my previous answer.
I am talking about the full parameter window, with every parameter options that does not show up. Not only the sync part.
When I close the parameters window after the first synch, I can't make it appear anymore.
This is the window I am talking about, from a screenshot on my Mac:
When I click on the "parameter" button or type the keyboard shortcut, nothing appears.
-
@chtbonerd No probs. You can't open the whole Settings. Never seen that before.
Have tried the Alt+P keyboard shortcut?Check the Vivaldi Help Page: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/full-reset-of-vivaldi/
-
@lamarca yes I did try it. Will try when I can to start with a new config directory, and choose to open Settings in a tab, instead of a separate window, to check how it behave.
I changed the thread title for clarity.

@chtbonerd Does the Package Manager allow you to remove and purge? If so, back up your files, download a new package and do a clean install.
-
@lamarca As mentionned I my first post, it happened on a fresh install. I will do it again as soon as I can use my Linux machine, making sure I will purge all files.
-
@chtbonerd And don't forget to back up the important files, the list of them can be found here
Au revoir

Installing the latest snapshot (1.15.1132.3) seems to have solved the issue. Thanks for your help
