Image Properties as a Dialogue
-
The Image Properties would be more convenient to use if it was a dialogue, instead of opening in a new tab. The vast majority of web images don't contain a lot of Exif information. All I usually want to know is an image's name, type, or file size.
This is the Opera 12.18 dialogue.

It could also be a sidebar panel. A general Info panel, which shows the site data by default, and the image data after selecting it from the context menu of the image.
-
I'd go one step further: In old Opera, the first context menu on right-click already displayed the file name and extension. If you added the file size to it, you wouldn't even need a pop-up dialogue for this basic kind of information. So basically:
Right click on image ->
Open image (imagetitle.gif || 58 KB)
Open image in new tab
Open image in new window
[and so on] -
I agree that this option could be useful. But I also would like to have EXIF data in popup version

Good one too. But I think a dialog would be more simple and the info is shown in a faster way than currently.

This way you could move the dialogue all over the page whereas the current solution let's you see picture and properties only. But I don't know whether you can close a dialogue using normal mouse gesture. If you can't (like in Opera 12.16) I'd prefer the current solution which is quicker in the end.

If we accept that panel is only an anchored window into which we can have web page, basic info, then this is the user that decides what form is the best for him : i mean that he can drag an drop onto the panel tool bar for getting a panel style, or getting more free like a window instance...
This suggestion may make the problem clearer Unanchor panel / Free floating panel / Pop-up panel. -
Almost 3 years since the first request Maybe someone like the new tab image viewer with histogram, but i mostly just need to know the resolution and check the link (Pesala's Opera 12 screenshot is the best example). So tired of actual behavior

Not to mention that as it stands, Image Properties on the context menu is superfluous as one can get to the same place via any of the Open Image options.
With a dialog, one would not need to open a new tab/window or replace the contents of the current tab.

Ditto. We already have those entries. I'd actually prefer less cluttered menu with cascading context menu, i.e. "Open Image..." --> and then all actual options like "In new window", "In new tab", etc etc...
