Sync: Status update
-
Aha! Think I figured it out. So if I drop out of wifi, Vivaldi doesn't crash. Doesn't normally let me cancel sync, but changing user does it implicitly. That let me do the sign-in-a-bunch-of-times thing that was working for the rest of you. And I think it's stabilized itself now.
-
@ayespy They used to be synced...
So... What now?... Synced notes will become semi-synced?... Would Vivaldi manage them correctly?
Would Sync wipe existing attachements on my other computers? Or just double the entries as it like to do sometimes?
I am afraid of raising chaos in my notes...
Should I sync notes in case of having a lot of attachements? Or maybe should I wait for full implementation?... -
@rotfl If it's potentially too much data, there are few options: Either don't save attachments, like right now, or give synchronisation data an upper limit per user. Some people would likely break this limit and don't understand why it doesn't work, so you would need to introduce data warnings and give them the ability to pay for more (which is complex and won't be easy to implement in a free browser). I can see why they go for option one.
-
@rotfl Yes attachments were synced. That's how the devs found out what a problem it was.
-
-
@rotfl It'll just require a ton of bandwidth and storage space...

Hi Julien (et al.),
thank you for the make-over and status update.
switch-over procedure seems to have worked without problems.
However, I see a non-synced state which might be just due to a misunderstanding on my side:
I use ยตMatrix as one of my core extensions. Since extension sync is listed as supported I expect the extension config to be synced as well. But it seems, at least the rules are not.
On my master (the machine I've started the re-sync) I get 1174 rule lines when exported to an editor, whereas the slave still has only 1167.Does this setting belong to the sync category "Extension" or "Settings" (which are not fully supported yet)?

@someone Extensions are synced but their settings not (for now)
"Sync Settings" โ "Sync Extensions Settings"
-
-
@rotfl: We are still syncing some metadata about the attachments, so that you can easily see when a note has attachments even though the attachments themselves are not synced. There should be no risk of data loss or duplication. (and if any of those happen, then it's a bug)

This post is deleted! -
@someone: Extensions are normally in charge of deciding which of their settings get synced. (You can look at https://developers.chrome.com/extensions/storage for details). As you can see from that API, there is a quota on synced data, so it's very possible that uMatrix chooses not to sync its configuration.

@gwen-dragon nope, snapshot. it almost instacrashes right now, so I am writing from stable
-
@gwen-dragon so, if you need me to send you something, feel free to ask >.>

@gwen-dragon ow, sry, version 1.15.1111.3-1, looked at the wrong package
wow this comment delay is pain in the backside -
@gwen-dragon it didn't occur after updating to snapshot, but after some time (and several strange logouts from sync) it just crashed and kept crashing after reload .-.
-
@gwen-dragon okay, I'll try to do it in 2 or so seconds before crash
-
Vivaldi 1.15 crashes after enabling sync - tried both re-logging in and decrypting, and starting from the command line to no avail,
