White flashing when opening a new website killing eyes

Video which explain the issue: https://youtu.be/lFyAFZo-p7E
tl;tr,
the issue is fixed in 65 chromium (latest actual canary)no, not fixed, reviewed again, and the issue still exists. The issue HURTS eyes very much. Question: when you will fix that too? -
@desperand The problem is in Chromium. So if 65 fixed it, we should get the fix with our intake of Chromium 65, which should happen before the release of Stable 1.15 (in other words, likely less than 6 weeks).
-
@ayespy I have manually review it at Canary, and can confirm, that the issue is not fixed at canary 66...
-
@desperand I can't see it on my system. Actually, I have never seen a page load so slowly as what your video shows. What sort of hardware are you running on?
-
I wish to add extra very important notes about the issue:
- There is no white flash when loading a page if you already have opened a site in the tab with any content (not blank, or not starting page); This works even for links with attribute target="_blank"
- If you try to open a site from bookmark panel, while you are on any other site, the issue is not exists.
The issue exists when:
- If you will try to open any site from speed-dial
- If you will try to open any site from bookmark panel, but you have no tabs opened yet
Extra notes:
- tried tons of methods around the internet, and almost all does not working at all (hardware acceleration, applying different starting flags, different css tips and tricks, and so on).
So, where devs should focus on?
- Please debug Vivaldi and check what is happened when you open a site when you already have a site in tab (any) because the problem with white flashing does not exist when you have any site
- Please debug what happened when you open a site from a speeddial or bookmarks when you have no sites pre-loaded on your current tab.
- Maybe need add a dirty trick with loading on page with speed-dials like some static local html page? Because it will solve the issue.
- Maybe somehow possible to block changing content on a tab until a page loaded?

@desperand Thanks for your investigation and ideas. I added that to bugtracker.
That why I'm loving vivaldi, because of community and people like you, who spending their time, efforts and trying to be FRIENDLY to end user, and helping, and so on.
Btw, are there any bugtracker what we can see? Like at chromium / firefox one? -
@desperand There is a tracker, but its restricted to Sopranos as of now.
-
If can help I can say that using simple speed dial and launching sites from that, this problem don't occours. Maybe can be helpful for devs to better investigate...
-
Thank you very much for the very good extension.
What about the issue, I can confirm on Google Chrome Version 66.0.3355.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) the flashing issue is fixed and everything works really fine without flashing from any kind of using a browser with or without hardware acceleration. The problem: when Vivaldi will be at 66 chromium? After few months? No, I can't wait for so long.
-
@desperand don't give up with Vivaldi! Afterall it's not that big issue. I understand that it's very irritating and hurting eyes that damn white page, but i think we can quite wait for a fix. I don't know if (maybe) it's something that can be temporary fixed in simple way, by editing some .css or whatever file. What I notice using simple speed dial (and it's the reason why with that addon there's not this problem) is the behaviour after a click:
without addon: click on speed dial --> blank (white) page --> loading website...
with addon: click on speed dial --> speed dial page stay locked (until) --> loading website...
It's like the addon keeps preventing to load that blank white page by forcing browser to stay locked on the addon page, until the website starting to load the page.
It's just suppositions as I have no dev skills... only by watching the behaviour. -
@desperand In the normal scheme of things, about nine weeks. Vivaldi cannot intake Chromium 66 until it is stable and released, and then about one more week of bug-squashing and regression-fixing after that.

This is great. I guess when the issue will be fixed with Vivaldi 1.16, there will be no reasons to stay on browser what I'm using right now. Plus at Vivaldi 1.15 will be sync, and other important features. I guess Vivaldi 1.16 will be really brilliant release!
