Active tab icon background
-
Alright, so I've recently switched to Vivaldi and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. There are a couple of things niggling at me like the lack of Chrome's ability to intuitively pull tabs into their own window but I can see that's been spoken about a already so I'll mention something I've not seen after looking for a couple of pages. I'm a fan of dark colour schemes and I tend to use them whenever I can, it was a nice surprise to see that the Dark theme for Vivaldi was rather pretty, though looking at my bookmarks bar it was quite clear that the majority of the web page icons were intended to be viewed on the standard white background. That's not the end of the world of course, I used the Tab Modifier extension to replace some of the less nice looking icons with my own ones that showed up nicer on the black bookmarks bar and was quite pleased with the results. Often this meant a simple white version of the standard design, but this becomes an issue when actually using those bookmarks. For example, have a gander at this. I'm rather fond of how the reddit icon looks against the black background, but when I have it as the active tab, the square white background makes it invisible. Now I'm aware that as far as issues go this is a trivial one, but I tend to fixate on this sort of thing and I feel it would be nice if there was an option to remove that white background if possible.

Until this happens, on Windows, you could go to your Vivaldi folder > application > version number > resources > style > common and then put in this code that will take away the background white box. This will also put a shadow behind it, but if you don't want that, then take that part out.
.tab-header .favicon { /**[Remove border around favicon(tab icon) and and shadow]**/ box-shadow: none !important; background-color: transparent !important; -webkit-filter: drop-shadow(1px 1px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.7)); }

^ Done! It works a treat, thanks a lot brother!

@SlightlyJames You're welcome. Don't you find that, plus the drop shadow, looks so much better than the way stock Vivaldi looks? I wish they would just make that the stock look . . .

@d0j0p thanks for the awesome script.

@nearbaskara You're welcome!

They really need to include this as the default behavior.

@D0J0P I know this is a quite old topic but let me try anyway. Where exactly in the code should i add this line? I don't know much about codding and just adding it anywhere between <html> and <\html> didn't seem to do the trick here on my end.

@deabo See Modding Vivaldi for more detailed instructions. And keep in mind that modifications like these are removed every time Vivaldi is updated (but there are scripts in the Modification category here on the forum to make it easier to deal with that).

@bakinazik This code works for me:
.tab-position .tab .tab-header .favicon {filter:none !important;}
