Solved Horizontal Tab Scrolling Instead of Shrinking
-
Optional tabs scrolling like in Firefox.
-
This is now possible with the Vivaldi 5.1 update:
Go to Settings > Tabs > Tab Display > Tab Bar and check:
Enable Horizontal ScrollingFind out more here. Hope you enjoy this new feature.
-
What is it?
-
@guilimote I think this means to allow tabs to scroll, and have a minimum width, rather than just get tiny when there are many on the tab bar.
-
@lonm Hmmm ok, maybe, thanks!
Reading the description I thought it was about tab switching by using scroll wheel on the tab bar, which is already possible. -
@lonm said in Tabs scrolling instead of shrinking:

Exactly.

Upvoted this feature request. Also multiline tabs are great feature when you have big monitor
-
This issue should be done ASAP, because it's a major blocker to switch to Vivaldi from other browsers when one uses many tabs. Tab stacking as alternative also do not work well for more than about 50 tabs in stack.
-
This option would be great!
-
It would prevent this from happening! screenshot

@longvoid Not sure if someone is still interested in this, but I have a working mod (a prototype) for this request. It is not "dynamic" - it is adjusted based on my settings - so if anyone is interested, I can reply with a modified version for your settings(if tabs are on top/left, if you have previews showing or just title/icon)
EDIT: Remember: this is not a permanent fix, is just something to use while you wait and might not be perfect
EDIT2: Well, maybe not soon. So far is just working on left/right sides. Here is the core code, it just needs to be tied to the tab create event (ex: window.chrome.tabs.onCreated). This example is for left side with previews
for (let index = 0; index < document.getElementsByClassName('tab-position').length; index++) { document.getElementsByClassName('tab-position')[index].style.height = '150px'; if (index > 0) document.getElementsByClassName('tab-position')[index].style.top = 150*index + 'px'; }

I'd really like to see this feature. Firefox has it, yandex browser has it. It really is a better option than tiny shrinked tabs.
-
@masterleo29 can i get a modified version?
-
@sarmadwadood Well ... it depends. I "abandoned" this idea a while ago 'cause I couldn't get it to work perfectly (Javascript is not my "main" language). If you want a fully working version of this, I'm afraid I can't do it right now. If you want another type of mod, go ahead and ask
-
@masterleo29 i just want the tabs to be the same size for the top, if that's not possible then i guess i'll just have to wait.
-
@sarmadwadood Right.. I might give it another look on the weekend. But yeah, you have to wait. (Unless someone better at Javascript than me can do it)
-
@masterleo29 thx

Really interested in this one, as I just switched from Firefox and I'm used to having lots of tabs open. In current state Vivaldi is not really usable with 25+ tabs opened, so this option would be appreciated (can't believe it didn't land ages ago to be honest).
-
So yea, I voted also. See my tabs
-
Same for me, had to install vertical tabs extension in Vivaldi because of this problem. Would appreciate if developers have enough time and possibilities to implement this. Thank you for attention.

@gggd Vivaldi has vertical tabs. Why would you need to install an extension?
