Set to English but uses American dictionary
-
Hi
I have a fairly new Vivaldi portable browser and just recently I'm getting some odd problems.
I have t continually go into the settings and re-choose "always allow flash". Why does it keep going back to "detect and allow only important flash"?Also I have installed and chosen the English dictionary and that's the one shown in settings. However it repeatedly tries to spell things the American way.
Finally, Sometimes I open Google maps and it shows me the European view. Other times it shows me the USA view and won't let me login to google, simply going back to the login screen every time I put my info in.
Frustrating things, can't seem to find a way to fix them.

@garyf If it was working the way you expected, and no longer is, then refresh your profile.
There is no such thing as a portable Vivaldi. There is Standalone, but that is not portable.
If you have anything on your system that oversees and inserts its fingers into web-facing apps (for instance various security software) this can impact Vivaldi, especially standalone Vivaldi which does not always load from the same path (if you have it on a flash drive, for instance).
Unless I'm mistaken, "English" according to Vivaldi is American English. You can, however, load the British English dictionary, but you must specify it.
Don't know why Google Maps would be inconsistent for you, but we have seen geographic-based anomalies with it, with some European users.

Difference between standalone and portable?
I don't have any security software o the machine, and Vivaldi always runs from the same location. A folder on the C drive.
If you can load the British English dictionary then it's hidden somewhere, as it's not in the list.
I've done the refresh and nothing seems to have changed tbh.
I appreciate the help so far, maybe like most software I just have to accept the bugs. -

If you can load the British English dictionary then it's hidden somewhere, as it's not in the list.
You have to download and add it first.
- Right-click in any text edit box and open Language Settings.
- Open the Language drop list and click the link to Add languages
- Check each of the languages you wish to add
- The added languages will now be available for spell-checking.

@garyf A standalone version always has to stay in the same place and be accessed by the same profile if you want to save and access secure items like passwords and extensions, saved in the browser. A portable version would keep and have access to such files no matter where you ran it from.
You can add and modify languages at chrome://settings/languages.
If you are in the United States, there should never be an instance where Google Maps opens into a European version, unless that was the last place you visited in Google Maps.
Due to recent changes in Chromium (thanks, Google) the only way to keep flash active is one site at a time, and by modifying site-specific settings, not the overall settings. Site settings are the little link at the bottom of the security-emblem dropdown.

Google does this if you are using a VPN, by default it uses your IP for many site features with no easy way to turn it off.
As a former Opera user I was constantly getting search results in Russia when using google services. Recently switched to Vivaldi and set my VPN to Denmark, behold it does the same thing!
