Just downloaded Vivaldi
-
Having just updated my Firefox to the new Quantum and found myself disappointed with the speed, I happened upon someone talking about the Vivaldi Browser. I had tried it before a couple of years ago (I think) and thought it good but found Firefox easier to use at the time. This time WOW, it's so much faster on this computer than any other browser I have tried. I love the idea of history showing the time you visited a page and am discovering new things. It runs like a charm.
Thank you Vivaldi. This looks like a real winner! -
@chris53 Take a look at the Vivaldi Tips site to get started (and Help F1, and Keyboard Cheat Sheet Ctrl+F1). It is not up to date, but it may help you get up to speed sooner.
This recent blog post is also helpful.

@pesala thanks, I will do that

Firefox Quantum project is slower than Chromium engine in little / medium web pages. But faster with the big ones. And, also, project will continue to develop. New DOM, and maybe JS-subengine will come. And maybe Firefox will be overall faster than chrome in the future.
-
@asires That's interesting. I'm finding Vivaldi faster on every page I have tried so far including some horrible Facebook pages. Not sure if this is the right place for a question. The default download was 32 bit. Would 64 bit be better on Windows 10?
-
@chris53 At this time, 64-bit will probably run faster and smoother on ANY 64-bit system, whether Win7, Win8, or Win 10.
32-bit will run on 32- or 64- bit systems.

@ayespy Thanks, looks like I need to change
-
@chris53 You can intstall one over the other.
-
@ayespy Oh that is impressive, thanks

@chris53
Try:
deviantart.com - middle mouse button click scroll.
gamegpu.com - also middle mouse button click scroll, when page loading.
https://elliottsprehn.com/personal/lazyblock/ - no comments. These are big pages, where firefox quantum can win.

@chris53 x64 is 5% faster at cost of +1/3 RAM usage. I will not recommend it for now.

@asires Yes, I see what you mean. Interesting.
-
@merryweather Thanks, I'm loving it so far

I'm very much in the same boat - Firefox went to 57 and I hate it as it breaks all the addons I rely upon for my browsing pleasure.
Just downloaded Vivaldi and am already converted! Tab management rocks and does almost everything I want out of the box !
Now I just need to find out how to get a "normal" left click to open a link in a new tab (and yes, I know I can right-click and select Open in new Tab option) and I'm totally happy.Figures I like it as its developed by the former Opera CEO - I switched from being a dedicated Opera user to Firefox when Opera changed to a Chrome clone and took away the things I liked. Things do go in circles, lol.

@morganacat Welcome! Glad to have you with us!
Please note that CTRL click and SHIFT click give you a lot of control over how to open new tabs from links. We will continue to evolve those capabilities.
Cheers,
Jon. -
