Snapshot 1.13.1008.3 creates another icon in Gnome.
-
Has anyone else noticed this in Ubuntu using Gnome in 17.04/17.10?
The vivaldi launcher creates another icon when launched.
The application icon in the overlay is black but when added to launcher is red.
The red icon on the launchbar, when clicked on, then spawns a black icon.
The spawned black icon is associated to the vivaldi window but can't be pinned.
???

Same here. Distribution is Kali Linux 2017.2 with Gnome 3.26.2 and Linux Kernel 4.13.
Everytime i launch Vivaldi (snapshot) it open a Vivaldi stable icon/window. but when i go to the info section it shows me that it is a Vivaldi (snapshot) window.

This is exact same issue happens for me in both MATE on Debian Unstable & KDE 5.11.2 on Arch Linux.
Example on MATE (Using Docky):
Example on KDE (Using KDE Panel):
I noticed this started happening on snapshot version 1.13.998.3.
The bug is very annoying since I have to keep moving to where the Vivaldi icon is as it is not pinned, nor can it be pinned. -
The different icon color is to identify the version. Red for stable and Black for snapshot

The different icon color started over a year.

@lamarca
I'm aware of the different icon as probably @Verequies is... it's more about how the launcher behaves which changed for me after last update. -
@cantankrus Both icons should be located at /usr/share/applications/ under the names
- vivaldi-stable.desktop
- vivaldi-snapshot.desktop

Yes, I know they have different icons. The red is still apparent due to theme defaults. The icon is not the point of this post. Its how Vivaldi launches, and currently it launches by opening a new window as opposed to keeping it a sub process of the launched shortcut/icon.

Do you click on the icon and Vivaldi opens in a new window? If your answer is yes, it happens when Vivaldi is already running.

I don't think you understand. If you click the red icon when Vivaldi isn't open, it opens a window with the black icon. If you click the icon again while the Vivaldi is already open (as the black icon), it doesn't create another black icon as it already exists. We don't want it to create the black icon at all, like it was in version 1.13.971.8.

vivaldi-stable is not installed.
No vivaldi process is running.
Clicking on snapshot launcher creates a second unpinnable icon.

@verequies I am not retarded. I understood perfectly well the issue. You call the stable and loads the snapshot instead. Did you check if the icons are in the right place?
Assuming both Vivaldi are installed in the default local,
try this one, open the terminal and issue the following command:/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir="/tmp/TEST-SNP" & <enter>
Close the snapshot and repeat the same procedure using the Stable.
If everything is fine, try loading both.

There is only one installed version (at least for me) - vivaldi-snapshot. The snapshot version just happens to use the same icon as the stable version due to the theme. I know you're not retarded.

Clicking on launcher creates a second unpinnable icon.I don't use UI to run Vivaldi, on terminal, type: "ps -e | grep vivaldi" - If the issue lies on the icon, your screenshot it's not reliable.

Fine, then try running Vivaldi using the commands, it will be installed without making any change in your SS.

I do not understand how the output of that command (which just shows the current running processes that have vivaldi included in the name) helps. The screenshots we all provided show the issue quite clearly. I will even provide a recorded video if need/wanted.
The output of that command is:
3179 pts/0 00:00:00 vivaldi-bin
17723 pts/0 00:00:00 vivaldi-bin
17925 pts/0 00:00:45 vivaldi-bin

@verequies The output shows all the Vivaldi instances running. I don't see vivaldi-sandbox on the output.
Check mine:

11476 pts/0 00:01:29 vivaldi-binI can see that you have vivaldi-sandbox running. Just to test, I downgraded back to 1.13.971.8 which doesn't have the issue, and vivaldi-sandbox did not appear in the process list. So I don't think it matters whether or not it shows. I'm not even sure what it does to be honest. When I try to launch it manually it outputs:
Usage: /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/vivaldi-sandbox <renderer process> <args...> -

Not sure how that is relevant and I am pretty sure my Vivaldi processes aren't running without sandbox. I am also not running as the root user.
#pgrep -a vivaldi
@Verequies Did you try my suggestion to install Vivaldi as I explained here?
ModEdit: Removed the output from the command line above.

@lamarca
Don't understand what you mean by your "screenshot it's not reliable".
Whether you start snapshot from the launcher or the terminal it should be associated with the pinned launcher.
