New Opera Forums is out
-
I think it looks very much the same as Vivaldi Forums. Almost a copy ...
What do you think about it ? Plagiarism ?
-
Oh ! I see. I thought it was Vivaldi behind the design here.
Thank you for clarification, Gwen-Dragon. -
@gwen-dragon Of course it's no plagiarism, but I still think they made this move in response to Vivaldi. Opera forums has been pretty dead these last year, they don't have the kind of community engagement Vivaldi has. So in a way it's very much a copy -- they probably knew they needed to change something and didn't find a more fitting solution than nodeBB.
The shame is they discarded myopera in the first place, why they did this, I will never understand.
-
@luetage Ha, they have a working Bookmarking feature out of the box
-
Jesus, what a space wasting design. A lot of wasted space and small font size. At least they have borders, I don't like borderless design like is on Vivaldi page.
-
I haven't been to the Opera forums for over year. Uninstalled their browser, no intention of going back. Ditched Firefox last year as well. Now, it's Vivaldi for me. Two other browsers for secondary purposes, but V is my main browser now, Any bugs/glitches will be worked out eventually. It's a good product.
-
@joelyoung Yeah, but this is about opera forums and you post about browsers.
-
Does it still require one to sign up to "disqus".
Disqus was the reason I left Opera forums long before it was sold to other interests. -
@luetage Opera forums exist because of the Opera browser. It's all connected.
-
@greybeard Disqus was only ever to comment on the Opera blogs, the forums have never required it. (And of course, the blogs are published by Opera, not by forum members.) Basically, they wanted a way for people to leave comments without being forum members, that's the answer they came up with.
And Opera browser is not owned by "other interests". They bought the advertising company (yes, Opera had an advertising company targeted at mobile users), they weren't interested in the browser.
-
@sgunhouse Sorry. That's not accurate. It was the BROWSER portion of the company that was sold to a Chinese consortium.

Ah, so it is a different deal. They told us the original deal was only about the advertising business, hadn't heard about the change. (If they did only want the advertising business they'll likely spin off the browser - so we'll see.)
-
I only use O12 for M2 and its download manager so it probably wouldn't interest me much anyway.
P.S.
If you haven't heard disqus was breached not long ago. -
Abour the Forums - Is there a restriction on posts? Just asking.
-
Restrictions? First post must be reviewed, new members also have a posting delay (like here, but not so severe). Restrictions on actual content? No spam (as judged by myself and the other mods), no offensive language. Posts should be related to the thread they are posted in, threads should be posted in the correct area. But there is even a thread on Vivaldi in "the Lounge".
Naturally I try to limit what I say about Vivaldi while there, if it comes up I will mention differences in features but try not to make any judgements one way or the other.
-
Thank you for your responses. I don't know whether I'd be regarded as a new member. I've been on here since V-1.11. However, I do agree posts must be vetted.
-
Exactly! Opera is using NodeBB
