@ayespy I opened empty browser, and it has happen to me 10000 times already, I told you many times please do the session maager, I going to find the esxtnesion right now, No WAY I going to use Vivaldi without session manager anymore in my lifer!!!!!
-
Please anybody help me to find good tab s manager such as Firefox has. At least chrome extension can work for now
-
@smbv I feel for you. I have never lost a session in two and a half years, so I know for sure you are doing something differently than I am, or that there is something drastically different about your system - or broken with your profile. But if Vivaldi closes normally, it always saves the session. None of our 70 or so testers have logged or mentioned such a problem.
That said, Vivaldi does not save sessions repeatedly in real time during use, and does not save them (unless already manually saved) in the case of a crash, often. Now I'm just a volunteer tester and moderator, and do not work on the browser, and am not employed by Vivaldi. So I can't fix anything for you. If you have not filed a bug report then please do so.
All that said, several people use the Session Buddy extension from Chrome and seem to like it. If you're not able to figure out what you or your extensions are doing that is breaking Vivaldi, that may be a viable option for you.

That is too bad that many users loosing session and Ayespy have not yet and he still thinks it's okay and only ME glitchy user has this bug, I telling you this is a common problem for Vivaldi, you should stop suggesting generic advice and give a more clear answer if you can.
Ask me to check something, aks me for my profile location, ask me to do something, I don't know, ask me to run the browser without any extension, ask me to kill the process and send you crash log, you never did and filling reports never worked for me, you have never done anything to session manager yet and probably will not be able to do it this year.
How to fully kill Vivaldi including all trash in Roaming folder, user folder, for some reason Vivaldi install to user holder in some temporary location, I told you to fix it, I have no idea did you fix it. Very disappointed with Vivaldi developers at this moment. I want to migrate back to something steady if Opera can offer me left sided tabs I would switch tonight.

@smbv Try a clean standalone installation into a new folder. Import your bookmarks then save any important sessions using Save open tabs as a session from the file menu. If you lose them again, you can reopen them.
I never lost any sessions in normal use. If Vivaldi crashed for some reason, then that would lose the current session.
Please be polite. Ayespy has provided good generic advice in his free time. When you come across as someone who knows it all, it makes it difficult to help you. No one gets paid to provide support for this free browser.
You're wrong that it is a common problem for Vivaldi. It may be a common problem for you with your workflow.

As a extra step - yes I will do manually save every session, but in Windows environment it is not possible, it has some glitches time to time especially when you work with DirectX and windows crashes due to heavy use of video card and other resources, but why Opera and any other browser never lost any session and Vivaldi doing it constantly, 80% of the time, I have no clue, no logic behind it, I could not track why, it just badly made and does work good, I starting to worry about future of Vivaldi on my machine, so sad but really I changing my mind about Vivaldi right now, thank you.
-
I'm using vivaldi-snapshots as my daily driver, I never loose a session.
-
@smbv You might try to see if you can run a clean enough version that the problem goes away. To see if this is possible, you can begin by refreshing your profile.
-
Vivaldi is definitely not for developers until they going to make proper sync option, current Vivaldi setup doesn't work well with storing the session. I lost my tabs again after blue screen after using other heavy apps, but why would Vivaldi be such a low with saving the session? What is it such a big trouble for Vivaldi? I don't understand.

Your PC is having BSOD and you whine about Vivaldi? Get your priorities fixed, your PC needs to be cured.
-
Hi, is there a feature request about auto save sessions or something?
Btw. I never lost a session since I start with Vivaldi at Alpha status 2 years ago.
And I never had a bluescreen ...
... on LinuxCHeers, mib

@smbv Vivaldi has been "making a proper sync option" since before the first public release saw the light of day. It is kind of a huge undertaking, but it's finally in a good enough state that we are testing it daily internally. Vivaldi is, of course, very young and unfinished.
At this stage of its development it is not yet armored for use on systems that are crashed all the time.

@smbv If you have a blue screen, that indicates the Windows operating system has been crashed, for whatever reason. When that happens, nothing else (including Vivaldi) that was running can move their files from RAM to the hard drive... their functionality is entirely blocked until the system is restarted. The only programs whose data 'survives' such a BSOD are ones that periodically save their status and data, and restoration of such programs simply restores the last 'save' action prior to the BSOD. Vivaldi, as do many other browsers, saves its session data when the browser is normally shut down unless the user does it somehow manually before that.
From your descriptions, it appears that you are heavily loading your system with a variety of programs. Vivaldi itself can place additional loading on a system, especially if you run multiple extensions and have many tabs open - particularly if heavy graphics usage is involved. In that case, you may be pushing the system into a marginal stability zone, which causes increased issues that can interfere in multiple ways with the proper closing of Vivaldi (and hence proper saving of its session records) when instability arises. If you're experiencing lots of crashes or instabilities, your Vivaldi user profile files may get damaged via improper closures, and that in turn can make the entire stability situation even worse upon Vivaldi restarts thereafter. Hence the advice to try a clean profile by 'resetting' it as referenced earlier.

I recommend you do a bugreport with all the details about the problem. Also, keeps saving the sessions manually with session manager. It helps when happens some kind of problem (for example, I've lost a current session because of a blackout, corrupted file), then I save manually my sessions sometimes during the day.

Hello Gwen-Dragon,
you right when you talking about Blue-Screen Error, after that hard crash not many programs can be recovered, it's okay and I totally understand the logic, but when I run Opera with the same setup and same crash it still able to recover itself.
Please do the same, if I would be a boss, I would say this, no matter what session should be sync in real-time and only lost in seconds or milliseconds, not like a caching it and pushing it to store once in while. This is my feature request - No matter what happened with users PC his active session should be recovered without any problem due to constant synchronization.

Very informative conversation on this thread has been removed and only bug report link has left. I don't think it is fair. I have described everything here with my fact and explanation of blue screen behaviour, if I do face the blue screen, Vivaldi is going to lose session and tabs, but Opera is not. Then Opera is better in sessions. Do the same with Vivaldi.
