Multiple instances [with different bookmarks]?
-
Hello
Is there a way to have multiple instances of Vivaldi browser installed on Windows,
where 2nd instance would have different bookmarks. If yes, how? -
@ganimed
Go to vivaldi.com to download the latest stable version or go to https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/ to download a snapshot version (beta)
You can have snapshots and stable versions installed side by side.When the install window comes up click on advanced --> select the dropdown menu that says "Installation Type" --> select standalone --> choose install path (you can choose whatever you like but I highly recommend to choose a folder that doesn't interfere with your "normal" install - just to be sure) --> install

You could also set up multiple profiles so you dont have to have different installs to keep updated.
On windows, find a shortcut to vivaldi and make a copy of it (e.g. on your desktop). Then, right click and go to properties. Then under the shortcut tab add the following to the end of whatever is currently in the "target" text box:
--user-data-dir=%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\profile2
You can now use both shortcuts to launch the same vivaldi installation, but have different profiles (different bookmarks, cookies, history).
This method also lets you manage many profiles much easier than having multiple installations.

@Gwen-Dragon Really? I've been able to use a single installation and multiple active profiles at once since ever. I'm doing it right now in fact. I havent seen any noticeable side effects. (Possibly there are hidden ones im missing?)

@LonM how come this isn't included as simple option in normal browser ; automatically, I mean.

@ganimed Not being on the dev team, I can't say for sure. You could always add this as a feature request here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/17488/feature-requests-for-1-11
