Bookmarks Export/Import question
-
I understand that the sync issue is being working on, and I get that it might take a while, so until that is available I have been exporting the bookmarks from my main computer (desktop), and importing them into my secondary computers (laptops).
The problem I'm having is that they don't import quite right. For instance, Speed Dial Folders don't seem to import as Speed Dial Folders, but as regular bookmark folders. I seem to have to spend quite a bit of time making Speed Dial folders again on the import computer, and cutting and pasting the bookmarks.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there any easy way to import bookmarks so that I just get exactly what I exported without all the extra work?

No, there isn't, imported bookmarks are always in an extra folder, and exporting to html has no way to save your speed dial/bookmark bar selection for folders. But setting this up shouldn't take longer than 1 to 2 minutes, it's only a pain if you do it really regularly

I don't understand why you're doing it this way. Try this instead, then you can decide for yourself which gives better reults for you [this is the way i've been doing it for yonks; always works well].
- Close V on source & target pc.
- In source pc, navigate with your file manager to your V Default directory, & within it copy the Bookmarks file [& if you like, also Notes, Current Tabs, Current Session, Favicons, History etc].
- Paste it / them into Default of target.
- Launch V again.

That's the problem, I need to do it 2 or 3 times a week.

..............................................................................................That looks great for my Linux Laptop - thanks for that - appreciated. Obviously, it won't work for my Windows laptop, but at least you saved me half the work.
-
@Felemur But it does also work fine for Linux to Win, W to L, L to L, W to W. When i want to update my Win10 VM's V's Bookmarks, Notes, Tabs, Session, Dictionary, History from my host Linux... this is also what i do.

Question: where do I find those files in Windows? I know Linux well enough to have found them in the folder /opt/vivaldi/resources/vivaldi/, but I have no experience with Windows. I looked around, but no success.

@Felemur help/about shows both the executable and profile paths

/opt/vivaldi/resources/vivaldi/
Wait, what, no, that's not right... or at least, it's not "normal" for a standard V Linux Deb installation [i can't speak for RPM etc].
Eg, here's mine; path copied from Dolphin:
/home/steffie/.config/vivaldi-snapshot/Default/...& here it is again, copied from [per Ian's same advice] Help - About:
Profile Path /home/steffie/.config/vivaldi-snapshot/DefaultAll the directories & files in /opt/vivaldi* are the actual V pgm stuff, not your user profile [which V, per normal Linux convention, keeps in the User's Home's .config directory].

Thanks for that - never used the Help/About before.

@Steffie
Thank you - you're right.Kinda made a fool of myself by saying "I know Linux well enough to have found them in the folder /opt/vivaldi/resources/vivaldi/".
Also, just wanted to say I finally had the chance to actually try it - and yes - it worked great - even from Linux to Windows.
That really is a big help for me and the work I do.
-
@Felemur Excellent, yay!
