Extension Icons Sometimes Change Position.
-
Naturally my initial, & logical, hypothesis was that i have a domestic IT poltergeist. Alternatively albeit far less exciting, maybe there's a minor bug?
Three times now i have noticed some of my extension icons are in a different position to where i'd previously dragged them. Twice this was in the current SS, 1.10.829.3, & the other [first] time might also have been in this SS, or it might have been one or so SS's ago [can't recall].
I don't think i can provide any technically useful info to assist troubleshooting, as it's not something i watch closely [though i shall try to be more observant from now on].
I have no evidence at all for this, but i wonder if the icons that moved each time, had their extensions recently auto-updated -- could that then cause V to allow them to move to the far RHS position [that's always where the changes occur]?

@Steffie Interesting... is nobody else having this issue? It just keeps happening to my SS, & is spanning updates.

Check if you have disabled animation (Tools/Settings/Appearance).
@Steffie Not something I would have noticed (I only have 5 and usually have icons turned off). Are they "moving" after Vivaldi close/restart or is it after computer shutdown/restart?

Yes! It was that the cause. Thank you mate

Hiya, ta. Well this of course is an excellent question, which unfortunately i can't yet confidently answer. Partial info so far: at night i exceedingly rarely shutdown my pc, but instead Suspend it, then Resume it the next morning for another day of fun-filled frivolity & farcical fascinations. However when i do my weekly backups of course i close V, & that will happen again a bit later today, so i shall keenly await sighting the icons once V is up & running again.
I'm going to specifically track it from now on. Here is the current disposition [has not changed since my last whinge, although i did just discover that uBlock Origin had turned itself off & had to be reloaded; damn poltergeist again]:

@Steffie Another couple of V-SS restarts, & a pc restart** too -- so far all the extensions' icons have still stayed put. Yet, per my earlier whinges, the icons have not stayed still over a longer time-frame. If the moves are following a pattern rather than just being random, i can't yet deduce it.
** Another crash, damnit; i have no understanding of root cause, but a pretty consistent track record seems to have emerged over several months that when doing heavy I/O to one specific USB stick of mine [SanDisk Extreme Pro (ha!) 128GB USB3], 4-6 of cpu's 8-cores max-out at 100%, & frequently eventually freeze the pc... cf for same operations to my Verbatim 128GB USB3 stick, this does not occur. Is this weird? Can a cpu & specific stick truly hate each other so badly? Actually, now that i recall, they really do hate each other - ages ago i learned to my displeasure after buying the stick that i can only plug it into one of my Tower's 2 front-panel USB3 ports; if i use the "wrong" port, Tower does not see it, whereas the Verbatim stick is happy to work wherever i plug it. Crazy mad SanDisk.

Hmmm, so not after restart (Vivaldi or PC as such). It may simply be a matter of having Vivaldi running "for some time" (days ?) or could it be related to performing the backups?
As I almost always shut down PC overnight - maybe I'm not letting it run for long enough to see the problem!?Off topic - I have had similar USB stick problems (works in one port but not in another) with a 16GB Kingston USB2; whereas a 128GB SanDisk USB3 stick works in any.

Damnit!! No restart, no nothing of any significance, but sometime during today when i wasn't watching [though i've been on my pc all the time]:

@Steffie Maybe one of your extensions had an update?
(Mine haven't moved - so not Ublock or HTTPS ) -
@TbGbe Yes, per my original post i had also wondered if that was what was going on. This one that moved so very recently was Session Buddy, & looking now at its Chrome Web Store page, i saw this:
Version: 3.5.1
Updated: May 7, 2017Hmmmm, sehr interessant, nicht wahr?

It's my mid-morn Tues, still not had first coffee yet so slightly grumpy, & i just glanced at the extension icons. Another move has happened, within the past 75':
That's Stylus, & at the Store i see now:
Additional Information
Version: 1.0.7
Updated: May 8, 2017
Size: 573KiBI think this is starting to make sense...
After posting this i shall restart V to see if the icons self-return to "my" positions. If not, then we've learned that extension updates break/reset V's preset user preference, which would be a pity.
-
@Steffie Oh coolsville!! They self-repositioned back where they should be, with the V relaunch. Nice one V Devs
I posit therefore that if my pc usage pattern was different, eg, i SD pc every night, or even just closed V prior to Suspending Tower, then each next morning i'd not even be aware of the icons' little party tricks; it'd all happen behind the curtain.

Note Board just took a jump to the far-right [unlike France, phew], & sure enough:
Additional Information
Version: 7.3.7

And then a step to the right
With your hand on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust
They really drive you insane.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Let's do the Time Warp againHowever as it wasn't, i shouldn't. Hmmm, more coffee needed.
