Really like it.

I really like it. Not plain or boring.

I also find the coloration of the title bar and the tabs a bit too aggressive. This, in combination with the absence of definition in other parts of the UI (no lines, borders, shading, demarcation, or any such between tabs or other elements at the sides) makes visual navigation around the UI a bit fraught.
That said, I'm happy if developers pay attention to function and performance first. We'll worry about appearance later.
-
There is a setting to disable colorization of tabs.

@Gwen-Dragon:
There is a setting to disable colorization of tabs.
Does not work for Speed Dial of Vivaldi.net; stays in eyehurting red.
The first version doesn't have this problem. Perhaps it is a bug of 1.0.94.

Totally agree. When I first started the browser I got scared as hell. I was like "Argh, where can I change colour? Need to change it now!" Took me an excruciating minute to change to gray.

Hi sgunhouse. Its jimwager from the opera fourms. How are you? I still use Opera 12 most of the time but it is getting so slow with my isp. Vivaldi is twice as fast. Also faster than IE or Firefox.
I also don't like the color. On my computer, the menu bar is a nasty brown color. Silly but it puts me off using Vivaldi. Also I canlt find the version number anywhere so I don't know if shouild update it or not, I once got a mesage that a newer version was avaliable (that was last December) but I don't know if I will always get these messages. I certainly don't want it updating automaticallty -
I canlt find the version number
Try: menu > help > about
The first line on that page should read something like:
Vivaldi 1.0.365.3 (Beta) dev (32-bit)The "1.0.365.3" part should be enough to identify it.

Oh yes I see! I didn't even know there was something called "menu"
Vivaldi doesn't like my version of Adobe Flash Player and wants me to upgrade it. I am not going to because the (old) version I have works with Opera, IE and Firefox and anything new made by Adobe will comes with a lot of things I don't want and which are impossible to delete

Opera and FF are using the NPAPI plugin, Vivaldi the PPAPI one, while IE use the Activex plugin. They are three different things.
So it shouldn't be a problem.

Well all I know is Vivaldi won't let me use Flash, Quicktime or Windows media player. All my other browsers do.

It will let you if you update to the latest version, here: https://vivaldi.net/

The plugins page in the menu (its not called "about" plugins. Just "Plugins") lists:
Picasa, not enabled. Windows Media Player, enabled, always allowrd to run. Adobe reader, enabled, always allowed to run. Java, enabled, always allowed to run. Adobe Flash Player, enabled, always allowed to run, with "download critical security update" next to it . I am not going to. I seem to remember that the version I am using, 11,4,402,278 is the last one that worked with Opera 12. -
@purgatori:
The page is not called about:plugins, but that address will take you there.
That's more like a compatibility address meant for people used with the syntax used by older browsers.
In vivaldi the address is vivaldi://plugins
The version of Flash you are using is very old, and may be blocked by Chromium due to security flaws (just a guess)
The NPAPI plugins, no matter if new or old, were deprecated a while ago and shouldn't work at all since chromium 44 or so.
As I said the OP is surely using the NPAPI plugin, since it's usable in Opera.
Vivaldi needs the other one, which is a separate installer, and a separate item in programs and features.

Thanks. But I'm out of my depth

Please please how do I get rid of the RED (described correctly by others as "eyehurting"??
You've said it can be changed in settings but I don't see how
