[bug] Constant crashing in random moments
-
Hello
My Vivaldi browser keeps crashing at random moments and sites for a very long time now. This is EXTREMELY annoying. Everything is okay, for hours and at some random point dead bird logo appears and anything i can do is refresh the site. This thing is happening on second system (W10 now), on previous Windows 7 situation was the same.
I like this browser, but if i had any real alternative i would change it already because of this. Is there any solution to this? Is it a bug, or faulty extension to blame?1.8.770.54 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
OS Version: 10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393
Virus free, rock stable pc. -
@floyt I have not seen the "dead bird" for months, so I doubt a bug (unless it's only in new stable and I've been lucky).
As for extensions, that is more likely.An quick and easy check (for confirmation) is to rename the Default profile and test with NO extensions.

I noticed that sometimes I get freezes for v1.7 and the previous version of v1.8, I could be wrong and the cause could be the website but I did get more freezes for those versions. Anyway it takes a while for the offending tab to unfreeze. Not sure if the latest version is the same.

@Gwen-Dragon
No, its not a problem with my hardware, or drivers. I stated that clearly. I have new GPU in my setup for 2 months and problem as existed (on old one) stil exists, on new, and at least 5 different GPU drivers.
It doesent matter if it is a crash of tab, or whole browser, it is annoying and interrupting/destroying something that you are doing or working on.
It happens on all kinds of sites, even google, so flash is not a cause here. -
@TbGbe I will try disabling extensions, and see the results. But im pretty sure that will be a waste of time.

@floyt You need to acknowledge, that your case is unique, as the browser doesn't seem to crash for anyone else, therefore there must be something with your unique setup/configuration that causes it.
Have you tried a clean profile, like @TbGbe suggested? If so, and it still tends to crash, then these are the things to check next:
- Try reinstalling the browser or install another instance as "standalone" and check if that one crashes too;
- Check for any 3rd party software that could possibly interfere with the browser - especially security software, like antivirus programs;
- If none of the above helps, then it could be anything - outdated drivers, broken files, wrong permissions, viruses, faulty hardware etc.

@pafflick I checked with extensions disabled, and later by enabling one at a time. It appears that uBlock plus, and origin in certain ad filter configurations is causing crashes. Thanks for help.
