"Fit to width" feature?
-
Is there currently a feature equivalent to Opera 12's "Fit to width" feature? If not, is it on the "to do" list? One forum in particular I follow permits embedding of w-i-d-e images which causes left-to-right scrolling to read posts in that thread. The Opera 12 "Fit to width" feature solves that nicely, and I miss it here in Vivaldi. (I'm new here, and tried a forum search and got no results, so please forgive me if this has already been discussed to death...)

Thanks. I tend to resist extensions, as once you start layering them on, sometimes conflicts arise and can be tricky to troubleshoot.
Is the "Fit to width" feature already on the developers' "to do" list? If not, how can it be added?
This feature is essential enough for my use that I will use an extension in the interim.

I don't think it's in the todo list. I think it's something that should be done at the engine level to be really effective.
And we know that google killed the feature even on Android phones past v4.3 when the decent android engine was replaced forcefully with chromium's one.

In Opera 12, engaging "Fit to width" reduces the container width so that the text/images all fit the screen width without horizontal scrolling. In Vivaldi there is virtually no difference with either of the two recommended extensions enabled.

That's really sad to hear. Is it considered progress to remove useful utility from a product? :S
I've been clinging to Opera 12 for only that feature. As time marches on, more and more web sites are incompatible with Opera 12. I've recently been testing Opera 37 and Vivaldi, hoping for a suitable replacement for Ye Olde Opera 12, but both come up short on features. I'm just an old(ish) fuddy duddy wishing for the Good Old Days.

Chr engine never had that feature, as for android, yes practically the real useful fetures stopped to be introduced in the Gingerbread era, since ICS the main Google concern was to help its business rather than really innovate.
They removed, a meaningful GUI and Flash in ICS, they removed the tethering freedom, and the mass storage mode in Jelly bean 4.2, they removed the the Opera like rendering starting from Kitkat and so on, the list is endless and constantly growing.

@Gwen-Dragon:
Is on the todo list but with less priority.
Well, that's somewhat encouraging to know it's at least on the "to do" list. Is there a prioritized list of these "to do" items anyplace for public viewing? (Or, even non-prioritized list?)

@Gwen-Dragon thank you for the addons suggest. I try iZoom (the second link you posted) and it woks well. Anyway, i think fit to width option should be present by default in Vivaldi, imho.
PS
For whom try iZoom, there's 3-way to set the zoom behaviour. The fit-to-width-like option (called Shrink Only) it's probably the one most people look for. It zoom the page and text without exit overscreen, so you don't have to scroll horizontally.(from the addon options):
- Shrink Only
Zoom is always at 100% unless window width is decreased and the contents are shrinked to fit, avoiding horizontal scrollbar.
- Shrink Only

I would certainly expect that fit-to-width would be an essential feature for the future Android version. It's already been mentioned in this thread that mobile browsing in Chrome is just crap. Ironic, then, that that's where everyone is "going" these days... :~(
(I've had to finally abandon Opera "Classic" for Android since it caused memory issues and then when I reinstalled it it no longer synchronises my old Opera bookmarks.)
Also, I can't stand all the additional, inaccurate, swipes and clicks you have to do for e.g. tab management. Compared to Opera Classic, Chrome UI is a mess!
Can't wait for Android Vivaldi...
