Vivaldi requires windows 7
-
"Vivaldi requires window 7" that is a message I got when trying to updating stable 1.6 to 1.7. My os is x64 Win 7 sp1. Same message when trying to uninstall the current version or when starting the downloaded full installer.
User has admin rights, other programs (un)installs normally.
Any ideas what is going on? -
Strange - does this happen for viv 32 and 64 bit version?
Does this message also shows up when you try to install a new chrome version? Because Vivaldi had to drop XP (and older) support due the fact that chrome did.You said that you got those messages but did the updating and uninstalling continue anyway - or did they stop after the message appeared?

@zaibon
It happens with 32bit vivaldi on x64 win7.
Update/install stops with this message. I'm stucked on vivaldi 1.6.
I can't even uninstall 1.6 because of that message.
I haven't tried with chrome, I don't use it. Haven't tried with 64bit vivaldi too.
I know that they dropped support for XP in some update, but i'm running win 7. -
- Did you tried to run Vivaldi in compatibility mode? (I know this sounds stupid but who knows...)
- Rightclick on the Vivaldi icon on your desktop
- Preferences
- Compatibility
- Tick the box for "Run this program in compatibility for"
- select "Windows 7"
- Click "Apply"
- Click "OK"
- To exclude the possibility that this error is chrome-code related could you try to install Chrome and see what happens?

@zaibon
I'll try this and will post the result. -
@zaibon
Changing the compatibility mode didn't had any effect.
Latest chrome installs normally.
After installing Chrome, same error message on update/install/uninstall Vivaldi 1.6. i.e. nothing changes.
Really weird situation. -
@solidsnake This indeed is really weird. And honestly I don't have the slightest clue what might cause this.
In case you run another pc with win 7 you still could try to install on your second machine vivaldi as "Standalone" (when the install menu pops up choose "advanced" --> "standalone") and than copy it to an usb stick and from this one to the pc that throws up the error message.
Than wait for the next update and try to update the standalone.
(I know no practical nor satisfying way but you might want to give it a shot anyway)Oh and please do the standalone installation only on the same kind of system you use (in your case win 7 - when you do the installation on lets say win 8 and try to use this standalone with win 7 it probably will throw up errors or doesn't start at all - at least this is my experience so far)

I wonder if, for some reason on your system, the Vivaldi installer isn't able to retrieve (or retrieve correctly) the current-version value from the registry key at HKLM "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" (it should be 6.1 for Win7, whereas it was 5.2, 5.2, or 6.0 for XP, XP-64, and Vista).

Windows version in registry is 6.1And I still got the same message.
