"Click current tab to go to last active tab" option gone?
-
Hi, not sure if this has been discussed at all, but this option seems to have vanished at some point. I recently got a new work machine and went to set up Vivaldi the same as on my home PC and this option is nowhere to be found.
What's worse is I can't even find it on my home machine where this feature still works, I just can't see the option in settings anywhere!?

@KE55ARD Settings -> tabs -> minimise active tab
-
Hell yes.... I don't suffer from hallucinations after all ^^ - I can't find it too but the strange thing is that I run two win 7 64bit machines both with viv 1.8.755.3 32bit.
On one machine this feature is still existent and on the other it disappeared with the update - at least that's what I guess. Didn't report a bug because I thought that I just messed up the settings myself. -
@zaibon Use the search field in the Settings dialogue to find those elusive features. This is getting more and more necessary as the number of options increases.
-
@Pesala
Jep, that's it - Thanks a lot!
But the even more irritating part is that this was already activated - I had to untick it first and reactivate and all of a sudden it started working again. o_0 -
@mossman omg thank you for this! Why on EARTH did they change the wording to something which makes such little sense!? I actually understood what that setting was when I first saw it.
-
@dLeon perhaps, but the shorter form was so poorly described that I didn't even think to hover it to read more because it seemed to describe something quite different to what I was looking for. So much so that the search didn't even show the option based on what I searched for.

@KE55ARD "Minimise" is the similar function that Opera 12 (and before) does when you click the tab (it minimised the page window inside the main Opera window).
Actually, I agree with you that this description in Vivaldi is wrong! - because (unlike Opera 12) the page will reappear in Vivaldi when you close the active tab. It is only moved "back" one layer. If it was really like Opera, then it should never re-appear (until the tab is clicked again to un-minimise it)...
-

@mossman
That's the title of the option, "Minimize active tab". Which, it does minimize.Uhhh... but it doesn't minimise it(*) - it just puts it behind the page which is next in line.
A better description for this behaviour might be "show previous tab" or something like that.
But minimize in Opera 12, isn't it because Opera version <=12 are MDI window?
Sort-of... "they" started to disable the pure MDI interface around Opera 10 (I think) - there was a user rebellion so they brought back most of the functions again, but the buttons and options were not quite standard MDI any more.
Edit: (*) If a page is minimised, then in true MDI you would it would never automatically reappear and you would see an empty window background after you close all other pages. The really old Opera would actually have little "closed" windows at the bottom of the main window "desktop" if you minimised everything. That was before the "tab bar" analogy came along and pages were still called pages instead of (stupidly) tabs (which they're not).
-
@Gwen-Dragon Actually, I propose a change to the functionality... either:
- "send to back" - where the page is not seen again until all other pages have been closed, or
- "hide" - which would do the same task as minimise: let the page re-appear only when the tab is clicked again
-
Much ado about nothing. Renaming the command would only lead to more confusion.
A proper minimize command may not be possible without MDI. Most users are familiar with the concept of minimizing an application window to give focus to the background window.

Except, as I pointed out, in Vivaldi the tab will suddenly spring back into view as soon as the current one is closed. That is not how minimising normally works, so the current flawed implementation is not only wrongly named, it's actually quite useless IMO.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Perhaps rename it to "Toggle with Previous Active Tab".
That seems to be how it functions currently, but maybe it is not completely implemented yet? -
