@g_bartsch - I would be very curious to know what size bookmarks file actually affects performance if, indeed that is what's gumming up the works for you.
I also wonder how much trouble it would be for you to temporarily save off your Default file, to see how that affects performance, then move back JUST THE BOOKMARKS, and see what that does. That would help define once and for all whether it is really the bookmarks file or not.

@Ayespy I appreciate it. In the past I've been in 'debates' trying to defend the amassing of large numbers of bookmarks and don't want to attract any more attention like that.
-
@Ayespy I'm working on it. Finding something interesting. We are posting similar info to two threads. Should we shift it to one or the other?
-
@g_bartsch: You pick. I'l answer where you go.
-
@Ayespy Thanks. Let's go to CPU or RAM to Blame. I'm sorry if I hijacked this topic.

Just open all the folders in the bookmark panel and scroll down, counting. That's what I did. That's how I know how many I have (abt 1400).
There is a way that is a bit easier:
Copy the Bookmarks file from the "Default" folder and rename it as a textfile than give it to a program with a proper search function and search for the term http.
Advanced options in win-office for example give you the number of results that are found.
This method of course excludes every url / bookmark that doesn't start with http but you get a vague idea of how many bookmarks you posses.
In my Case the unbelievable amount of 17 -
@zaibon Thanks. I used Baregrep and it did a killer job of listing all the URLs. I had about 6k. Not too bad.

@dLeon: The data format from 1841 isn't compatible with modern operating systems anyway. I think they must have used CPM back then.
-
-
@dLeon Damn - this one is way better. I've to admit that I was just too lazy to look through the whole file to see if url: is used somewhere else in the file instead of only for the saved bookmarks.

@Gwen-Dragon So, what about my issue with the Bookmarks button? All replies are just joking about how many bookmarks they have accumulated. Does anyone else have the problem with the bookmarks toolbar button? Could it be a bug? As a moderator, do you communicate with the Vivaldi developers to inquire about these types of issues?
-
@dustov: How long is the list of bookmarks you are waiting for when you press the bookmarks bar chevron? Very long? Very, very long? Short? I can't reproduce that here because the only folder I have with enough bookmarks to overlap the end of the bar, only overlaps it by 15 bookmarks if I shrink the window to less than half my screen - and then the response of the chevron is instantaneous.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Oh, I feel so much better now! Well, thank you for this advice, I will try and let you know.

It might be time for some pruning. I could probably make do without of 2-3 of them.
