Web Developer coming from FireFox
-
There are a few things I've noticed I've seriously missed having in coming from FireFox. I've been making a list since I started using the browser (will update if I can);
- Firefox has the ability to select and copy to clipboard a single column of text in a table. This is nice if (for instance) I want to copy all the names of the "posts" in a list of posts in a table that also contains dates and authors, etc..
- When I'm typing in a URL, if the page loads or changes, it then updates the address bar and deletes what I was typing. It shouldn't do that if I typed something.
- When pages load inside an iframe, there is no indication that anything is happening.
- Some places detect the browser as "Windows Chrome", why not "Vivaldi"?
- Developer Tools is missing a lot of features, including responsive tools and some more modern tools that I don't list here. It feels very out dated.
- Javascript popups or http login prompts should not interrupt all tabs!
- I should be able to right click or middle click things like the items on the dropdown for going back, or search results in the address bar to open them in a new tab.
- I miss the "Forget This Site" feature from FireFox that lets you complete erase a website from the browser. It was great for debugging.
- Passwords are not saved for HTTP login prompts -- and lastpass doesn't work with these either.
- Syncing everything between computers (I know this is being worked on).
That's it for now, those are the major ones. All in all, I LOVE the browser. I used to be able to place my tabs on the bottom in FireFox and it's great to have this again in Vivaldi. I love the flexibility with the browser and all the features it comes with out of the box. It's enough to keep me around for now, despite the aforementioned.

The User-Agent HTTP header contains all sorts of things. They look quite silly nowadays. If a site doesn't recognize the string "Vivaldi", then it may opt for "Chrome" instead because it's also included. Vivaldi is after all based on Chromium (and naturally has Chromium's developer tools as well).

@xghozt You can post your request for such features here. You should probably check that thread first to see if some similar requests haven't been made yet (some were for sure). You can also take a look at requests made by other people and vote for them if you'd like to see those features in future releases of Vivaldi.

I just tried this by configuring the
.htaccess
file to prompt for username & password stored in the.htpasswd
file and I was able to save my credentials and log in automatically in a new session in Vivaldi 1.7.735.46 (Stable channel) (32-bit). What could you be doing wrong that it is not working for you? There might be a workaround (that I used to save the password to log in to my router since it must be using some script to prevent saving passwords on its login page), which is importing your passwords manually. First enable the feature in vivaldi://flags/#password-import-export, then export your passwords, edit the CSV file by adding login credentials to the site you didn't get asked to save your password for (mind the syntax!) and then import the file (remove other entries to avoid duplicating or overwriting them). This way you can manually add login credentials to any website.

Yeah, most places just parse the string for a keyword. I should have just looked at it, haha. I had one site pop up saying the browser wasn't supported because it wasn't the latest version of Chrome.

I think it (LastPass) worked in FireFox, but I will have to test again to be sure.

Thanks, I will take a look.
