Any method to change/keep the personal-configured order of extension in Vivaldi 1.2.490.43 (64-bit)?
-
Hi everyone,is there any method to keep and change the personal-configured order of extension in Vivaldi 1.2.490.43 (64-bit)? As now, this browser hasn't offered the feature, changing the order of extension by simply dragging icons at the button bar. Thus,I edit a file called 「Preferences」 under 「%Localappdata%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default」 to re-order the buttons of extension. However, the preferences file will be back to the default setting of browser, so this method isn't working. Vivaldi is a user-friendly software. Could somebody tell me how to make it re-order again? Thanks.

Hi,
is there any solutions at now?

@Gwen-Dragon - and then do it again next time you open the browser. For a permanent fix, uninstall and re-install in the order you want to see. A fix will arrive some day, but no one knows when.
-
@Gwen-Dragon: That could be. I always power down completely, not hibernate. Every time I have left a computer on over several days, I have paid for it with having to buy a new power supply, motherboard or had to replace a PCIe card. I've decided it's not worth it.
-
@Ayespy They'll still reorder themselves after restarting the browser. There's no permanent workaround for this currently...
-
@pafflick: I don't think you read what I wrote. The permanent fix is to uninstall them and then re-install them in the order you want to see them. The installed order sticks. That's what everyone is complaining about. They don't want to see them in the installed order.
-
@Ayespy I have double-checked it the last time somebody else asked about this on 1.6 Stable and 1.7 Snapshot and now I've confirmed this in 1.8 Snapshot and in 1.7 Stable, before making my reply here. Extensions are reordered after restarting the browser or even upon opening a new window.
I was unable to order them permanently, the order of installation doesn't seem to play any role (I tried it on two different computers with 5-15 extensions).
-
@pafflick: I see. That sux. I don't use extensions, and so had to go off the advices of people who do, and the last few I read indicated that they display in install order. If that's not the case, (which is quite ODD if disable-enable order does change them - it's hard to imagine what mechanism would move them for "enable" but not position them for "install") then folks will just have to wait until the Vivaldi UI is more thoroughly developed.

@Ayespy The extension icons seem to be ordered by some factor (that I don't know and haven't been motivated enough to investigate) because some tend to be always in the 1st position, whereas others tend to be in the last. It could be the case that someone has installed some extensions and the default order happened to be the one that they've actually expected and thus they assumed that installing them in the desired order is a permanent solution (or perhaps it was in earlier versions of Vivaldi). Honestly, I've never cared too much about their order, so I'm presenting the latest/current state of the issue.
Today I've copied my Vivaldi profile from my PC onto my Tablet and I've had to install extensions all over. I did this in a specific order and after restarting Vivaldi they reordered themselves - but not randomly. The order is exactly the same as on my PC (they are the same extensions). It doesn't really bother me, but the fact is that it needs to be addressed at some point...

Not sure if it is just coincidence as I only have 4 installed, but when I open Tools/Extensions and activate Developer Mode
The extensions in this Tools windows are alphabetical, based on extension name.
Whereas the icons in the Address bar appear to be ordered in alphabetical order (based on the extension ID - not the name,).
-
I don't believe those shown in address bar is in install order either.
Yes, as I said, they are in extension ID order in the address bar (for me).
That is NOT the order in which I installed them. -
@TbGbe -- You. Are. Brilliant! Like everyone else here i've been peeved about our inability to manually sequence the extensions in the bar from L to R, & have them survive restarts. Until now i also has assumed that V was whacking them in random order, just to keep our days "interesting". I gasped when i read your insight, & put it to the test... your score --> 100%. Yay you!!

@Steffie Thanks for confirming my suspicion, I had the idea, after @pafflick mentioned the "random reordering".
However, it doesn't help when someone wants to rearrange them.
As @dLeon said, we can't edit anything to change that. There may not even be a list in Vivaldi; perhaps it is simply loading visible/active extensions in that order. -
@TbGbe -- Oh yes, sure i agree that it does not help us to actually make the dratted little varmints stay put where we want them... but i still felt this is the first bit of progress/insight into this conundrum for a looooooong time. Hopefully our beloved Devs will sooner rather than later solve it.

That's what I was suspecting too, but - as I said - I haven't felt motivated enough to investigate that...
