Vivaldi: What I love and what I need
-
Hello Vivaldi, I'm excited to see the direction where this browser is heading. This is my first summary of things that I love, miss and don't like. First off, some bugs: [ul] [li]• [Mac] Open a new tab with Speed Dial, go to any site, then go back. Now you can use two-finger swipe gesture to go forward (see that arrow on the right?) which will crash the browser[/li] [li]• Repeat it a couple of times and you may get this: broken white browser window (From menubar I could still create a new window which works fine and after deleting Vivaldi folder in Library/Application Support it went back to normal)[/li] [li]• [Mac] Once you save a few passwords, everytime you open Settings (Cmd + ,) you will get several system dialogs asking for permissions to use Keychain[/li] [li]• Go to Settings and change Tab cycling order for a few times. It will work the other way than you selected (untill you restart the browser)[/li] [li]• [Mac] Go fullscreen, right-click and choose Inspect Element – the browser will create a new window that doesn't have any menubar on top and is hard to work with or get rid of[/li] [li]• My favourite shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + L to select URL in address bar doesn't work once I start working in a tab (it does when the tab is fresh with few states to go back to)[/li] [/ul] Some suggestions: [ol] [li]When selecting part of a URL in address bar, OnMouseDown starts text selection from the left, I would prefer to select from this exact spot[/li] [li]I would like to select text within hyperlinks, that is a huge deal for me. Right now when trying to select part of a hyperlink it will start dragging the whole link[/li] [li]When visiting a website with SSL certificate (like this one) the address bar is showing wide green title (Vivaldi Technologie AS [NO]), I'm okay with that. But, when trying to select URL, OnClick action deletes this green text and shifts the whole address to the left side so I cannot select what I need on my first try (that's why I can't stand Safari)[/li] [li][Mac] Keyboard shortcut Shift + Cmd + Arrow is switching between tabs, although it's supposed to select text like Shift + Home/End on Windows[/li] [li][Mac] Pressing Esc always closes fullscreen mode even when watching video on fullscreen or using Find on Page dialog. How about not exiting fullscreen on Esc at all (just like Chrome)? I rarely need to exit fullscreen whereas I need to close dialogs several times a day without worrying that it's going to mess with my window.[/li] [li]Right-clicking on a hyperlink and choosing Open Link in New Tab brings this new tab to front, why not keep it in the background?[/li] [li]I like to use Cmd/Ctrl + click to open new tabs in background but sometimes it opens selected link in the same tab (and I'm forced to go back and open this link again via right-clicking and Open Link in New Tab). How about an option to force new tab everytime when clicking with Cmd/Ctrl? (even if it's a javascript action I don't mind opening a useless tab with javascript in the URL much rather than losing progress on site and needing to go back)[/li] [li]How about an option to Open new tabs next to active one like the old Opera used to have?[/li] [li]I cannot stand when I have multiple tabs open and for some reason (browser update, crash, Flash Player update opening a new blank window) I lose all my tabs on next startup. Could there be like a log of last (3?) sessions in working folder? Or a special tab in history to show which tabs were open last time?[/li] [li][Mac] I really like Mac's behavior of scrolling over the edge (possibly all browsers except Opera 12– behave like this). Could you preserve this fluid scrolling in Vivaldi? It just feels better to go beyond than when motion is being stopped on edge.[/li] [li][Mac] Could you bring mouse gestures back? Not necessarily the whole range from Opera but Chrome's/Safari's two-finger back and forward would be nice.[/li] [li]Downloads only show the amount of data transferred out of the whole file but there is no time estimate of percentage.[/li] [/ol] What I love so far: [ul] [li]• The resizeable tab thumbnails! Perfecto. I was trying to persuade Opera devs to implement it since v15 was out, nothing happened – this was a reason to switch for me[/li] [li]• Speed Dial is much better: I like how easy it is to create a new Speed Dial tab/folder, to reload a thumbail, get to bookmarks or history[/li] [li]• Save password? dialog is much better than in other browsers[/li] [li]• The left bar with downloads and bookmarks is very useful (maybe history could fit in here as well, eh?)[/li] [li]• Bottom bar with zoom is showing URL on the left when hovering over a link[/li] [/ul] Thank you so much for amazing work and I hope I'll help you to create a better browser.

Two changes in build 1.0.94.2:
When selecting part of a URL in address bar, OnMouseDown starts text selection from the left, I would prefer to select from this exact spot This is now worse, OnMouseDown I cannot select part of the URL at all
[Mac] Open a new tab with Speed Dial, go to any site, then go back. Now you can use two-finger swipe gesture to go forward (see that arrow on the right?) which will crash the browser Swipe gesture disabled for nowAlso, with mouse pointing to a Menubar on Mac fullscreen window controls should slide down to make room.
