Snapshot 1.2.470.11 - Editable Gestures
-
Thanks for the in-depth response, Ayespy. I did as you suggested above earlier on, after I posted, copying back in folders and files which seemed to contain relevant data and settings. I didn't manage to restore the appearance settings, mouse gestures, and keyboard shortcuts for some reason.
What files are most immune from becoming corrupt? I copied back in things like bookmarks, passwords and so on, and it seems fine so far. I didn't methodically make a note of all the stuff I copied back in but I backed up the User Profile folder so I can do it again if necessary.
I deleted the 'application' folder and watched it re-spawn before reading your reply. Passwords seem still to work, luckily.
Regarding Vivaldi getting confused about which instance it's updating, I have had conflicts with my standalone installation, whereby it got confused and ran my main install when I executed the shortcut for the standalone. Weird, and not sure what happened.

See my reply below (clicked the wrong reply button).
If the perpetuation of corrupt files can't be avoided when having a direct copy of the files, perhaps this can only be solved when Vivaldi has syncing capabilities, and can therefore backup the settings in the cloud, with which to recompile the files and folders on command. Is that feasible?
-
A question. How can I enhance the number of pages that I can backward? After I browsed 30-40 pages, I cannot return to speeddial.
-
I'm just a user like you, and have learned most of what I know through trial and error, but in my experience, Bookmarks, Cookies, History and Icons have never given me any grief becoming corrupted. I managed to do a reinstall where I replaced my password file with the saved one, but now although password saving and inserting works perfectly, Vivaldi is of the stated opinion that I have no saved bookmarks. What? But any operational difficulties I ever ran into, but for one, I solved by renaming the "Default" folder, spawning a new one, and then moving bookmarks, etc. back. It takes me perhaps a minute, maybe two, to re-set all of my personal preferences in the interface and download my ONE (count 'em, one) extension, so I don't even try to back up and re-use configuration, preferences and extension files.

Yeah - the problem isn't a good file becoming corrupt on being copied - it's faithfully copying an already corrupt or problematic file. Like if ScriptSafe extension is blocking your browser from running, then faithfully copying it into the new profile folder is just going to torpedo you again.
-
Well, at least among non-address bar users it is very popular, since we rely on this feature to access the sites. I thought since Opera Presto there's this situation and it's awesome to see those features being implemented in its "spiritual sucessor"…

I can not confirm (Win7 32). However: I reroute many "ad domains" to 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file. So could it be that loading ads from ad servers takes the time you observe?
-
Could be waiting for ads from a server, yes. But I tried the same pages in other browsers (Opera and IE), and I don't find the same delay (but sometimes you can see a small delay also in those browsers)
-
The browser is crash after a small time. Then it doesn't opening if you does not clear all settings.
-
Yes it is a bit of a ball-ache to re-encounter all the shortcuts I'm used to having (because they don't work), as I can't possibly remember them all at once upon reinstalling.
Which is the lucky extension?
-
I downloaded a host file to block ad domains.
It seems to have fixed the problem -
I confirm, Vivaldi 32bit and 64bit.
-
Thanks to this new version, many problems with bookmarks, have been corrected.
Thanks to the efforts you put into improving Vivaldi, realizing you are heading a fantastic browser.
-
I use auto-copy - because it allows me to copy text without formatting, a necessity in my work.

Well, I know patience can be painful, but so is losing all your email. It's not a matter of IF the email client will arrive. It's simply a matter of when. As mentioned earlier, it is already in use internally. Jon has mentioned in a couple of interviews that he uses it. The development team use it. External testers use it. Unfortunately for our poor overloaded nervous systems (but perhaps fortunately for our data security and mental stability), it will not be released until it is adjudged by the developers to be reasonably safe, and to include enough basic functionality so as not to drive a heavy email user completely around the bend. It is a big, big job - being done by just a couple of guys. In the meantime, everyone needs a browser and hopefully Vivaldi will eventually earn a place as your browser of choice, and everyone needs an email client, so here's hoping you have one you can live with in the meantime. I think the choice of the Opera standalone client is not bad, because first of all it's good, and secondly, one may be sure Vivaldi will be looking at ways to make the changeover from that one painless.

I'm about ready to "bust a gut" waiting for the next update considering how phenomenal THIS one is, is any indication of next. Gut feeling it will be!
Can hardly wait must be something GREAT. They hooked me this time and first time I've been "impatient". All the "small" improvements made a BIG difference in browser.
Oh well time will tell.

Make Hangouts extension usable again, please. It shows blank window until i open F12 mode and press F5. Or until a new message arrives
Though gestures are cool. Not so important but cool.) -
Never understood what was the point of the visible trail option so many chrome extensions seem to have enabled by default. Care to explain?
