To stop the content from being automatically selected consider:

deselecting Settings > Address Bar > Select Address on Activation selecting Settings > Address Bar > Show Full Address to ensure cursor is located at position where clicked

Edit: Oh yeah just thought of one. Treat the Workspaces dropdown like a web page and have a < and > control so you can jump back and forth or perhaps just a "Go back One" button (horrible name I know).

It's really annoying. I still check the updates for a mention of it. It's by far the worst thing about Vivaldi. If there is a problem making a noise from the notification, then just forget about that and make the noise when Vivaldi Mail received the email and puts it in the Inbox.
I'm missing time sensitive emails all the time because of this. I wouldn't have used Vivaldi for emails if I'd known about the problem.

@DoctorG found the culprit. Browsec got reenabled somehow. I had turned it off in extensions when the VPN was added as part of Vivaldi so as not to have it possible conflict. Somehow it was back on in settings but not showing in the extension panel.

You can (as an alternative) set up a rocket gesture Settings -> Mouse to hibernate all background tabs with two clicks. I am not sure if this can work in a specific tab though. Maybe someone with better experience knows.

Hi and thank you for the feedback, this was an old "trick" to get performance back to Vivaldi but it was not mentioned for a long time here in the forum.
I have 1-3 downloads in the list usually, maybe this helps @szczurnik, @shaneb and others, it's easy to test this.

Yeah, from what I've been testing, up to ~1000 entries Vivaldi handles it fine, still gets affected but barely noticeably, at least with my specs, but after that it starts to get progressively worse.

Btw, when the auto-hiding of toolboxes breaks down, it seems that this correlates with a violation of the definition of touch to the screen: Vivaldi begins to recognize real touches to a web page as touches a centimeter higher. Its also old bug.

The coincidence of two bugs does not always appear, but often, but perhaps "after that it does not mean because of that".

@mossman I used the 6.xx version first because I thought I might not get the major update to the mail database that way. I was leaving town for a few days and did not have as much time, but I thought I might be able to install the new one and restore my mail and user data from a backup into it if I needed to. I don't quite know enough about how all of it works together to be sure what would be best. I knew that I had been using a 6.xx version and it was working for me, so I went with that first. As you note the 7.xx version is working for me fine and would have been just as good given the process I actually followed. I figured my IMAP accounts would be fine with a clean install, but wanted the ability to use some of my backup data if needed.

@far4 Very good hint! When I opened the Themes app it told me that my current theme was incompatible with my device or system. I selected another theme and - voilà - the Vivaldi icon appeared. Thanks a lot!

Hello, signing in with the same issue. Yesterday the buggy menu auto-clicked on "Stack Tabs by Hosts" and I was in a panic. Fortunately, I had already enabled session backups, otherwise I might have switched to some other browser...

For me it happens even without menu scrollbar, regardless of "User Interface Density" (just switched to Compact, didn't know that option existed; since I had two monitors with very different sizes and resolutions, the regular was taking almost the whole height of a screen). In some places on the screen it seems to happen more. It looks to me like some rounding problem?

In the video, every time a menu item is highlighted (lighter gray), had I not kept pressing the button, it would have clicked on the menu item automatically.
