Information like "you should never use old versions" is utterly pointless to anyone who values their own user experience over anything else. If something changes for the worse in terms of usability, we're not going to change with it until the thing we're using ceases to function.
I agree to a certain extent, it is not just that a user is happy with the version he has and therefore continues to use it ad infinitum, it is that older versions gradually become more insecure, security updates have their reason for being. Naturally if you have a version of Vivaldi, let's say not updated for 1 year, it can be perfectly functional, although with some bugs that were resolved in later versions and perhaps some pages will give you a warning that you have an outdated browser, but this depends on how you use the network, even IE is still working and valid for some tasks (?). Same with Windows or other OS..
