Now this or the other option is misleading: if I set the 'Search engine for private windows' to X (whatever), then I expect that search engine to remain X, no matter what. Unchecking the 'Keep last selected etc.' should grey out the main set options, so it becomes dynamic in an obvious manner.

It happens when using uBlockOrigin and in the new tab write something with "letter" aXXXX, for example, if i write "apex legends" it crash after the "p" or "e".
It happens to me from 4 days, i reinstalled the browser, and the extension, and if i disable the extension, still appear the error, i had to unnisntall deleting data and install again and use without ublock.
Because if i reinstall keeping the data, crash again, using the extension or not.
Clearing data doesnt work

If you need more info, ill install uBlock and reproduce it if need it and share a screenshot.

I am also facing Issue with Vivaldi error 185 persists, even after reinstalling with or without uBlockOrigin.

They haven't told you to search in vivaldi://settings but to go to chrome://settings/payments (see the chrome:// as first part of the url?)
I know it can be misleading if you're not used to it, but follow the instructions: Just copy/paste it as it is

@Boefjim, check if a Windows update is waiting, sometimes it's the cause of the slowdown of the system if it isn't any Security soft.

Hello, extensions that work in Chrome or Brave do not necessarily work in Vivaldi.
Vivaldi UI, address bar tab management, bookmarks are completely different to other Chromium browser.
Try without extensions to compare, at least disable all or create a test profile.

Please test this in a private window or the guest view, this except extensions and use the default settings.
