Damn. Well, I'd like to be able to operate a browser with just a remote i.e. cursor keys. There's the Aura Browser but that one operates entirely on a virtual cursor which seems inefficient for navigating most web apps.

Solved ...a bit counter intuitive as I'd expect to see this setting under Address bar or Search yet it is here:

Enabling this fixed the issue of direct input in address bar leading to Vivaldi assuming this was a URL instead of a search engine query. I have to add that when trying to recreate the issue I paid attention to the following - the issue does NOT occurs if I type whatever I type (say, "I typed this") and add a space after the last word "this ". Were I to leave it without the spacebar, V thinks it's a URL and it just throws the "No internet" or whatever DNS error.

@derDay Thanks, good suggestion. I removed what I don't need from quickcommands so it shows mostly bookmarks.

I didn't find an old feature request for this so I'll post one because I still think it would be a nice feature.

About how many tabs and windows we are talking about?
I don't use windows anymore since the worspace feature was introduced, maybe two on my dual disaplay setup on my workstation.
I can handle 700 tabs in 14 workspaces with out any slowdown on my systems but I always hiberate unused workspaces because of my 16 GB RAM.
Chrome extensions can cause really strange issues in Vivaldi but hard to test.
You would have to close all windows, remove all extensions or start an new session with --disable-extensions start command.

If you report this to the bug tracker and comment I use 10 windows with 2000 tabs I don't want to test this, to be honest.
But this is only my opinion.

Yes, the search and the address field are the only UI elements you cant remove as other.
I guess this is by design but also a bit irritating for new user.

I can confirm this issue is also present on my home system, which has a browser version of 5.6.2867.62
This may be the version where the issue started. I know it's not up to date (I'm not asking for support with my home system), but I highly suspect this is a bug so I wanted to include the information.

Going to be honest here.
Yes, there are a lot of options you can configure in the UI.
No, Vivaldi should not account for every possible situation. It is not going to be doable on a scale everyone will like.

But speaking from my experience as a full stack systems engineer. If the developer has changed a setting that is immediately noticeable by the user and impacts them in a negative experience, has not mentioned the change, and has not provided a workaround that is easy enough for the user to understand and use. That is a major issue.

Vivaldi has provided options for the user to modify the fonts of a page, but has not and at this time will not add an option to modify the UI font. They can just change it at their will, expecting all users to put up with it.

Not every user will understand CSS, or even how to enable it, or want to enable it just to change their font. And that is the problem. It is suddenly not their browser anymore. They cannot change it back, and better yet, there was no public information to know what the previous font choices were even if they did want to go down the rabbit hole of learning and implementing custom CSS.

A lot of people would leave for that. It is not a good position to be in for both the developers and user. Especially because it goes against a core concept of Vivaldi - its customisability. Changing the UI font is a simple option that Vivaldi could implement very quickly - I have no doubt of this.

Given I had eyestrain immediately after updating the browser, and then had to proceed to figuring it out for 3 -4 hours, I honestly felt like not using Vivaldi because of this. Those were my initial thoughts, and I bet those are the initial thoughts of many users for these kind of critical changes. I stuck with it because I understand it enough to figure it out and fix the issue myself.

The majority of users won't even read these forums in order to figure out the issue or try and solve it. Most people aren't like that. We are a different crowd. Vivaldi and other developers need to keep that in mind.

@Pathduck it goes to older tabs in order. Like if I was in tab 3, 9, 1, 4, 9 it'd go 4, 1, 9, 3. While in Opera if I was in the same tabs it'd be just 4, 9, 4, 9, 4, 9...

Again, it's minor so I'll learn to live with it.

Hi, there are some reports about this issue, I have updated the report to ping the developers and add a link to this thread.
